The Process

People ask us all the time how we make our wands, and what cores and wood we use. Well, I'm here to give you a little explanation.

Wandwood, before the Core is imbued. 

We have an amazing expert in wandwood providing our supplies. Mr. Cole's father has been a wood worker for the better part of his life, and can tell you just by sight what type of wood it is. He is able to find some of the best woods for us. From Orange to Wenge, Black Oak, to Cedar, and Alder to Purple Heart. We do our best to not stain the wood very often, but rather just seal it, leaving it in its original color. We feel this provides authenticity to the wands.

Each wand begins as nothing more than a block of wood. The process by which the core is inserted is a very magical and closely guarded secret among wandmakers. Being that we work with American supplies, our cores are taken from Quetzalcoatl feathers, Wendigo hairs, and Jackelope antler fibers.

Finished wands.

No two pieces of wood ever want to be the same. From straight to twisted, and crooked to dented, each wand turns out different than the last, no matter how uniform we try to make them.

Sometimes, we even find wand materials in random places.

Below is a photo of a number of uniform-handled wands, surrounding another odd-looking thick wand.

The uniform wands were taken from the spindles of a chair back. (Don't worry, there were bowtruckles living in the chair.)

The weird looking wand there in the middle is made (if you can believe it) completely out of an elk antler. Mr. Cole is pretty proud of it, and I'm not sure he'll want to sell....

The "chair wands" as we call them, that you see here are not finished yet. They'll be sanded down, and probably stained to some degree to give them a bit more character and individuality.

Usually we make wands from strips of various woods as you saw in the photo above. Those are our personal favorites.
